Centre of Excellence
“The Department of Plastic and Maxillofacial Surgery at the Royal Melbourne Children’s Hospital is a lighthouse. It is the brightest light in craniofacial surgery in Australia.” Dr. David Chong
A Centre of Excellence is what all leading hospitals and services strive for. It’s defined by excellence in skills and learning. It’s a high standard of specialisation. And it’s a dedication and commitment to experience and safety by all its staff and supporters, one hundred per cent of the time.
We are a Centre of Excellence, always striving to be a step ahead in skills and learning. With an average mortality rate of 1 in 100 for craniofacial surgeries worldwide, our department has a rate of only 1 in 2000.
Our objective for the Department of Plastic and Maxillofacial Surgery is that it remains one of the jewels in the crown of Australia’s leading children’s hospital.
The Royal Children’s Hospital is located in the academic Parkville Precinct. Surrounded by a world standard in clinical service, research and education aligned with the University of Melbourne, it’s a hub of education, skills and research that offers tremendous support. All these things define a Centre of Excellence and they all apply to our Department at the RCH.
